An inaugural entry with so much to say, or maybe so little. But then, we are all entitled to try something new and make a few mistakes along the way, right?
Two years ago today, I officially left behind my 12 years as a music teacher to little people (infants through Kindergarten). Of course, no one ever totally leaves behind the teaching experience - especially in sharing music with young children and watching them come alive to it. And since my new job at the fine arts museum (house museum to be exact) involved education tangentially (ooh, big word!), I guess I'm truly still dabbling in the field.
Today, though, I looked out the second story windows at work, and there lay 14 acres of green gardens, and so much more, and, even though I know that the oven of heat of the Houston summer is upon us, I was grateful. The green of the summer has hidden so many of the scars left by Hurricane Ike. The casual visitor would never realize the devastation that occurred, but it is still out there disguised - huge stacks of sections of tree trunks and branches tucked behind the greenery on the 5 wild acres of the gardens.
We were, and are fortunate. We survived, and as with many disasters in life, the worst of the memories do fade and get tucked behind something beautiful that covers over.
So here it starts. A fun new road to travel, to learn, to share.
Welcome Friends! See you again soon!

WOW - I get to be the first to comment!!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy to see that you have decided to share your musings about life with the world. Perhaps you can even get ME to restart blogging. I've been pretty negligent over the last couple of months!
Welcome to the world of blogging, and I can't wait to read more.
Janet
Woohoo we need more musicians with blogs :)
ReplyDeleteYAY! I love your blog. I also like your fish comment...this must be where Alli gets her 'unusual' status comments...it's genetic. tee hee.
ReplyDeleteThe gardens sound beautiful right now. Anna says she doesn't remember going to Bayou Bend so I think we need a summer outing. Any special time you can suggest?
Look forward to keeping up with your blogs (that doesn't sound right for an artist such as yourself)...how about musings. :D
Early is the key word. Right after we open at 10:00, especially if you want to walk in the gardens for a bit. If you want to go in the house too, let me know when you want to come so we can reserve a place!
