"Tuckin' in another day..." - Chris Rice, 1998

I love the image conveyed by this lyric from a song, And Your Praise Goes On. Most people who know me well know that much of the contemporary Christian so-called "praise" music is not anything of which I want to make a truly steady diet. I do like a lot of what Chris Rice does though, partly because the lyrics show some creativity and thought, and there is variety in the musical ideas - some interesting, and also some very lovely, simple melodies.

Back to the image though... I love the idea of putting a day to rest. Tucking it under the covers, making amends for the difficulties of those hours, putting away the anger, soothing the hurt, calming the fears, resting the excitement - all of these transitions that we don't necessarily consciously think about. All preschool teachers learn the value of attending to transitions. Young children just have to have time to adjust to the idea of changing activities. Many fond memories in this house come from bathtime and storytime before bed. And with infant and toddler twins, it was about sitting in between two cribs and holding little hands while the bedtime music played. All tucked in.

Good evening, All. Sweet dreams.
