I know. It's a random title. It has been occurring to us that, because Houston has been besieged by some relatively cold weather this winter, The azaleas that should bloom in Miss Ima's gardens just may not cooperate fully with the River Oaks Garden Club's big event of the year,
The Azalea Trail. It is regularly held on the first full weekend in March. In the past two years that I have worked on site, the azaleas have started popping out in mid-February. Not seeing any sign this year. Aha! Perhaps that is because I have not recently been for a lengthy walk in the gardens because it has been so cold!
So, what if the ROGC has this huge event, with all the planning that goes into it...and noone comes? First of all, not likely. People will come - there just may not be much for them to look at.
We will have camellias, and some bulb flowers, but not the expanse of pinks that normally takes over the hedges. Even the oriental magnolias are staying in bud, and they certainly would have been blooming by now.
There are plenty of times that timing is just not perfect in the world. Plants, people, jobs, careers, learning, choices, prayers...they just don't always cooperate to apease our agendas, and often, in fact, send us on journeys we just never would have taken otherwise. Then there's also the waiting that comes with the total package. Sometimes it's about excitement and anticipation of something wonderful, and sometimes it's about dread and fear and "what ifs". And then sometimes, it's just a waiting that comes out of not seeing the choices.
God can help us with the waiting. We just have to ask.
