Today was the day to tackle the stove-top and mircowave. There's something about having 3-4 cooks in the house - these two appliances get dirty no matter how much you ask, remind, post signs, threaten or whatever.
Why is it that we have such a hard time cleaning up after ourselves? Is it that we tend to hear of "cleaning up" in an unfriendly or negative context from day one in our lives, or is it because there has always been someone cleaning up after us, or is it that the "Cleaning Lady" is portrayed as a menial laborer? If the latter is the case, then shame on us for perpetuating the stereotype, since there is noone more valuable than someone who knows exactly how to truly clean a bathroom and/or kitchen.
I have wandered a bit off my original thought track, however. It occurred to me that I now have 3 adults living under this roof - with 1 other adult still away at school. Two just recently turned 21, which has become widely celebrated as being the legal age to drink and buy alcohol. In truth, being an adult goes way beyond the privileges that are bestowed. It also should carry with it the responsibility to be a citizen in parts of one's worlds - home, school, community, work, faith. So, all these opportunities also bring responsibilities to take care, to step up, to participate in the running of all of those worlds. In other words, take care of and clean up after yourself without being hounded!!!
Everyone within earshot, or internet shot, take heed!
