Vigilance...

We have all been stunned by a horrible act of madness in Connecticut this week.  I have not watched the television coverage and have only read enough to try to get facts and understand exactly what happened, but the answers are few except for the names of those very dear young children, and their loving teachers who died trying to protect the little ones entrusted to them.  Those are the names that should be imprinted on our hearts.

There is madness, and evil in our world.  There is illness, and hate, and cruelty - and ignorance, apathy,  and confusion about right and wrong.  It comes to visit us when we least expect it, and can become our personal tragedy in the blink of an eye. I can't imagine what will bring peace back to the close-knit community of Newtown, but I'm praying that God will be in the midst of it.  When there are no other answers to our questions, after our shock and anger, we can only hope that our resolve will be to find constructive ways to be vigilant against evil.
