Chilly start to 2010

It's 33 degrees outside, and though it has managed to not be rainy, there is ice forming wherever it has an opportunity. Early this morning, our gardens curator called us to come out to see what was happening around the biggest fountain on site. There was a thick sheet of slush all around the edges of the basin, and the mondo grass had become fingers of ice pointing in every direction. I took a few pictures, but his assistant came out later and snapped this one, among others. She has a great eye for composition, right?

I love it when someone captures these little details that we otherwise might miss. I also love that God created us all with different talents and abilities to use and interpret with our senses. What one sees, another hears, another smells, another touches... Just walking across the bridge this morning, I was greeted by the crunching of my footsteps on the green turf carpet. The sound, I recognized, but my feet have little experience with that sensation!

It is probably a gift that we don't always use all of our senses to their greatest capacity. We would just be traveling in overload constantly. Better to choose to concentrate on one or two things at a time, and treasure what we can fully take in.
