Bolivar Ferry, Come Carry Me Home

That's what my song says, though I never actually lived on the Bolivar Peninsula. I believe in the power of the imagination, though, and the idea of seeing that barrier island along the coast be wiped clean by Hurricane Ike 2 years ago was as horrific to me as if I did live there.
I've ridden the ferry across from Galveston now twice since the storm. The first time, we took the car and drove toward Gilchrest. A year's time had healed some wounds - some of the vegetation had returned, but there was little re-building going on.
I understand that they have created a "blueprint" for recovery, but all realize that it will be a long time coming. Even in Galveston, some of the landmarks are different, but soon, the only people who will miss the old will be the ones who knew it before, and plenty of them will not return.
I put together a little video remembrance for the second anniversary of the landfall of the storm - Bolivar Ferry - Come Carry Me Home on YouTube as my way of contributing to the re-building effort. Cash flow doesn't allow for much, but creativity can be a source for all kinds of hope. That would make me happy.
