Up until a few days ago, the pictures tacked to the
walls of my cubicle at work were of family, and of the gardens in the full regalia of spring. I needed that more immediate reminder of the beauty of my workplace - or at least, the ultimate focus of my work efforts.
But then, I noticed the light changing outside. Not the heat, mind you, as it still feels like summer, but the light was taking on the cooler look of fall. It reminded me of the beauty of the ravines in the color of changing of the seasons, so I printed off this photo and posted it beside the others.
Then, somewhat suddenly, though not totally unexpectedly, I received word of the passing of a dear family member. I think the fall would be a good time to leave this earth. When you've completed your work for God here, to be about laying down to rest with the rest of nature - that just has a resonance about it that seems right. Although we are an "Easter people" in terms of what is ahead, there is something correct about saying our goodbyes in the fall.
Love you, Grams.
