For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.
2 Timothy 1:7
New Living Translation (©2007)
Some translations say "a sound mind" instead of "self-discipline". That's the version I first came across, and still my favorite, though I realize it may not be as exact a translation. I also like what Matthew Henry says below in his commentary:
"God has not given us the spirit of fear, but the spirit of power, of courage and resolution, to meet difficulties and dangers; the spirit of love to him, which will carry us through opposition. And the spirit of a sound mind, quietness of mind."
Quietness of mind is such a gift.
