Father's Day

Today my thought is to wish a blessed Father's Day to all the fathers who are, all who took on the role, and all of the angels who were.

As part of a choir trip to San Antonio a few months ago, we toured several of the missions on the Mission Trail. The day was gorgeously clear and the tours afforded some walking and picture opportunities. My attraction to the rose window in the photo was that my father had taken pictures of it years before I was born. An avid and talented photographer, he waited for the light on it to be perfect so there were few, if any, shadows. In a box in my closet is a print from one of those photos - an 8x10 developed in his own darkroom.

The draw of this window comes from every side being carved differently. Yet, there's a great deal about it that is symmetrical. Interesting in that, like a whole person, within itself it has many facets. It wears many hats, just as fathers have to do. How do they ever manage? How do any of us ever manage to do that and still appear as a single being? Well, it's certainly part of what keeps us all interesting. I'm glad I managed to share this window with my dad. I like to think it gives him a smile.
